Turkish Süper Lig: Amedspor go top as Fenerbahçe hit eight and Trabzonspor stun Galatasaray
The sixth round of the Turkish Süper Lig produced one of the most dramatic weekends of the young season, with heavy defeats for Galatasaray and Beşiktaş, a historic Fenerbahçe victory and a new name at the top of the table.
Amedspor ended the weekend as league leaders with 13 points, ahead of Galatasaray on goal difference, while Beşiktaş remained on 12. Fenerbahçe and Trabzonspor both moved onto 10 points after emphatic victories.
Trabzonspor tear Galatasaray apart
The biggest shock of Saturday came at Papara Park, where Trabzonspor handed defending champions Galatasaray a stunning 4-0 defeat.
Mohamed Salah was the star of the night, scoring a hat-trick, while Nicolò Savona also found the net as Trabzonspor produced one of their best performances of the season. Galatasaray, who had entered the weekend at the top of the table, suffered their first major setback of the campaign.
The result opened the door for both Beşiktaş and Amedspor to move above the champions on Sunday.
Amedspor beat Beşiktaş and move top
Amedspor continued their remarkable start to life near the top of the Süper Lig standings with a 3-2 home victory over Beşiktaş in Diyarbakır.
Gift Orban opened the scoring in the 13th minute before Dia Saba doubled the hosts’ advantage. Dusan Vlahović pulled one back for Beşiktaş after the break, but Furkan Soyalp restored Amedspor’s two-goal cushion.
Orkun Kökçü converted a late penalty for Beşiktaş, but it was not enough to prevent defeat.
The victory took Amedspor to 13 points and first place, while Beşiktaş missed the opportunity to move to the summit themselves.
Fenerbahçe hit Eyüpspor for eight
Fenerbahçe produced the most spectacular result of the weekend, destroying Eyüpspor 8-0 in Istanbul.
Vedat Muriqi scored four times, Mason Greenwood added two goals, while Matteo Guendouzi and İrfan Can Kahveci also got on the scoresheet.
Fenerbahçe had already scored five by half-time before continuing their dominance after the break. The eight-goal margin represented a record Süper Lig victory for the club.
The result moved Fenerbahçe to 10 points and provided a major response after their goalless draw against Gaziantep the previous week.
Başakşehir also score four
Başakşehir enjoyed an emphatic weekend of their own, beating Gençlerbirliği 4-0.
Elsewhere, Kocaelispor defeated Gaziantep FK 2-0, while Alanyaspor earned a 2-1 away victory against Çorum FK.
Erzurumspor edged Samsunspor 1-0 and Göztepe drew 2-2 with Çaykur Rizespor. Kasımpaşa and Konyaspor opened the round with a goalless draw.
