Charter plane crashes at remote Alaska radar site: All 8 people on board killed

A civilian-contracted aircraft crashed at Cape Newenham Long Range Radar Site Airport in western Alaska, around 450 miles (725 kilometers) west of Anchorage. All eight people aboard the aircraft died in the crash.

Crash occurred near remote radar facility

The Cape Newenham radar site is part of a network of remote facilities used to monitor aircraft operating in Alaska’s airspace and along its borders.

The site is managed by the Pacific Air Forces Regional Support Center.

U.S. Air Force issues statement

Lt. Gen. Robert Davis, commander of Alaskan Command, the Alaskan North American Aerospace Defense Command Region and Eleventh Air Force, described the crash as a devastating loss.

“This is a devastating loss for our military family and the communities we serve,” Davis said.

Officials did not provide details about the specific work the people on board were carrying out. The aircraft was described as a “civilian-contracted aircraft.”
