Trump claimed that Iran was in a difficult position and said Tehran was seeking an agreement that would allow the strait to reopen quickly.

They want to make a deal under which they would immediately open the strait because they have suffered very heavy losses. They want to make a deal, and I think that’s good. I like making deals too, but this offer was not acceptable.”

The proposal, conveyed to Washington through mediators on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly, called on the United States to end its naval blockade of Iranian ports.
In return, Iran proposed reopening the Strait of Hormuz to maritime traffic within seven days and resuming negotiations between the two sides.
