Yemen launches major operation to retake Sanaa
Yemeni government forces have launched a large-scale military operation aimed at retaking Sanaa, which has been under Houthi control since 2014. The operation seeks to restore state institutions and bring the capital back under government control.
“Strategic offensive on Sanaa has begun”
Rashad al-Alimi said, “Operation Dawn of Yemen has begun to restore state institutions, liberate the capital Sanaa, and end the coup by the Houthi militias.”
Military spokesman Majed al-Nazili said the army had launched a “strategic offensive” on Sanaa, adding that “modern capabilities” were being used in the operation.
Government forces advance in Bab el-Mandeb
Government forces are also continuing operations against the Houthis in the Bab el-Mandeb region.
The Yemeni army said government forces had taken control of the Dhubab district and strategic positions in the surrounding area. It also announced that Dhubab airport had been seized and the road linking Dhubab and Mokha had been cut.
The Houthis have controlled Sanaa, along with large parts of northern and western Yemen, since September 2014.
