The United States and Iran have agreed in principle to keep their ceasefire in place beyond August 17, according to Pakistani government sources.
A source close to the mediation process said both Washington and Tehran had informed mediators of their approval for an extension. Discussions are still under way over the duration of the renewed ceasefire.

The US and Iran signed the Islamabad Agreement on June 17 following the war that began with US and Israeli attacks on Iran.
The agreement established a 60-day negotiation period aimed at reaching a final settlement.
Iran dismisses claims of US ground offensive
Meanwhile, Iranian Border Guards Commander Brigadier General Ali Akbar Javidan rejected claims that the United States was preparing a ground operation against Iran, describing them as “imaginary”.
Javidan said Iran’s borders remained secure and that border forces were fully prepared to respond to any potential attack.
He also argued that although several Iranian commanders and generals were killed in previous attacks, the structure and operational capacity of the armed forces had not been damaged.
