US singer Bobby Caldwell is dead

Bobby Caldwell

The American singer, songwriter and musician Bobby Caldwell has died. This was confirmed by his wife on his official Twitter account.

Caldwell died at his home in upstate New Jersey at the age of 71. “I held him tight in my arms when he left us,” writes Mary Caldwell. Her heart is broken forever. “Rest with God, my love,” she says goodbye to her husband, with whom she has been married since 2004, and thanks her fans for the many prayers.

Bobby Caldwell had severe health problems for several years and was recently unable to walk. He suffered from painful bouts of neuropathy, damage to the peripheral nervous system. In addition, the singer is said to have not tolerated a prescribed antibiotic, which led to further complications, as his management revealed last year. However, what ultimately led to his death is not known.

Legendary hit “What You Won’t Do for Love”

Born in New York, he discovered his musical talent as a child and learned to play the guitar and piano. At 17 he moved to Las Vegas and performed with various bands there and later in Los Angeles before landing his own record deal in the late 1970s. In 1978 he landed a mega hit with the song “What You Won’t Do for Love”.

The song has been reissued or sampled by more than 100 artists over the past few decades – including legendary rapper Tupac Shakur for his posthumously released song “Do for Love”. Michael Bolton and the group Boyz II Men, among others, have also recorded newer versions.
