Azerbaijan has imposed an entry ban on 31 Turkish citizens, including politicians, journalists, writers, academics and media figures. In a statement dated October 21, 2026, and numbered 406\/26, the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry cited the individuals\u2019 social media posts and online statements as the reason for the decision.<\/p>\n

31 people declared \u201cpersona non grata\u201d<\/strong><\/h2>\n

The Azerbaijani<\/a> Foreign Ministry said the individuals had been designated \u201cpersona non grata\u201d under the country\u2019s legislation. According to the ministry, some of the statements published by those on the list allegedly targeted Azerbaijan\u2019s sovereignty, national security, constitutional order, population and government.<\/p>\n

The statement also claimed that some posts contained calls for the forcible change of power and incited violence and hatred on the basis of religious radicalism.<\/p>\n

Fatih Erbakan among the names<\/strong><\/h3>\n

One of the most prominent political figures on the list is Fatih Erbakan, leader of the New Welfare Party. H\u00dcDA PAR Deputy Chairman Yahya U\u011fra\u015f, H\u00dcDA PAR Batman financial and administrative affairs official Sait Seyito\u011flu, Toprak Party Chairman \u00d6mer Uluta\u015f, economist and politician Ayd\u0131n Binbo\u011fa, and MP \u00d6mer Faruk Gergerlio\u011flu were also included.<\/p>\n

Muharrem \u00c7avu\u015f, who served as head of the AK Party\u2019s Bo\u011fazi\u00e7i Youth Branch between 2020 and 2025, was also named.<\/p>\n

Ahmet \u00c7akar also barred from entry<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Sports commentator and former football referee Ahmet \u00c7akar was another high-profile name on the list. \u00c7akar stood out as the only figure from the sports world among the 31 people subject to the entry ban.<\/p>\n

Journalists and writers also included<\/strong><\/h2>\n

A significant number of media figures were also named in the decision. Among them were \u0130smail K\u0131l\u0131\u00e7arslan, Yusuf Kaplan, Murat \u015eahin, \u0130rfan Kaya \u00dclger, Fatin Da\u011f\u0131stanl\u0131, Ak\u0131n Duru, Ahmet Bar\u0131\u015f \u0130yison, Okan Ayta\u015f, Adem \u00d6zk\u00f6se, Mert Arma\u011fan, Ya\u015far Yavuz and Ahmet S\u0131rr\u0131 Arvas.<\/p>\n

Mehmet Boynukal\u0131n, a professor at Marmara University\u2019s Faculty of Theology and former imam of Hagia Sophia, and theologian Halil Atakan Ay were also included.<\/p>\n
